netbsd-9 is the legacy branch, what might become the 9.5 release.
netbsd-10 is in the latest stable branch and will become NetBSD 10.2.
netbsd-11 is the beta branch and will become NetBSD 11.0 later this year.
HEAD is the development version (aka "bleeding edge" or "current").

Third-party software is available from pkgsrc. Follow the quickstart guide to set up pkgsrc. On NetBSD CURRENT use binary packages for NetBSD 10 (or 11 once they are available).
